The European X-Ray Free-Electron Laser Facility GmbH (European XFEL GmbH) is a multi-national non-profit company. It will make available X-rays of unique quality for studies in physics, chemistry, life sciences, materials research and other disciplines. Engineer or physicist for software development (f/m)

The position

  • participate in the detector development program for the scientific instruments at the European XFEL
  • interface to and support of external detector consortia in terms of calibration and data analysis software
  • develop and maintain calibration software and a calibration data base for imaging detectors
  • develop and maintain detector-specific data analysis and image processing algorithms
  • develop and maintain detector performance and detector response simulation software

Requirements

  • PhD in physics or engineering degree in computer science
  • experience in at least one of the following fields: data analysis of imaging and advanced photon detectors, image processing, detector performance simulation
  • profound knowledge of programming languages like C and/or C++
  • knowledge of Monte Carlo simulation techniques and the Geant4 toolkit are an asset
  • good communication skills and ability to work in an international and multi-disciplinary team of scientists, engineers and industrial partners
